Quadrupole Magnet

A quadrupole magnet is an electromagnet with four symmetrically arranged poles that uses the force exerted on a charged-particle beam passing through its magnetic field to focus the beam, converging or diverging its width. While a bending magnet redirects the beam’s path, a quadrupole magnet acts more like a lens, keeping the beam focused and preventing it from spreading. The focusing performance is determined by design parameters such as the field gradient and bore diameter.
