Bump Magnet
A bump magnet is a pulsed electromagnet used in circular accelerators such as synchrotrons to locally shift the beam orbit for a short duration during injection or extraction. Unlike a bending magnet, which redirects the beam path over a large angle, a bump magnet displaces the beam’s position only within a defined section, timing the shift to match injection or extraction. The effective length and field strength determine the speed and precision of the beam displacement.
